5 Common Spring Issues and HOW you can Support Them (Part 3)

Last week’s blog explored HOW to solve the Top 5 common Spring issues from a Japanese Yoga (and Traditional Chinese Medicine = TCM) perspective.

If you missed Part 1 in this series, the Top 5 Spring issues are:

  1. Headaches + Migraines (around the temple area)
  2. Joint Aches and Pains; Arthritis is an extreme example of this
  3. Eye issues: blurred vision, floaters, bloodshot eyes, general vision problems, dry eyes, painful eyes
  4. Feelings of Irritability or Frustration
  5. Seasonal Allergies

Part 2 explored two simple activities:

  1. Japanese Yoga and
  2. Drinking more water (and consuming small amounts of good quality, unrefined salt).

In Part 3 -the final part of this series -we’ll look at two more basic approaches to support your body be free of these Spring challenges.

PURE ESSENTIAL OILS

Certain pure essential oils can support the body to efficiently return to balance.

You can expect to get long term results as long as your essential oils are:

– Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade

– Used safely (ie diluted) and appropriately

– You refer to trustworthy resources to guide you in how to use them safely*

I’ve been using pure essential oils and sharing them with my family and friends for years.

They’ve been a complete game-changer for my health and wellbeing and have saved many a visit to the GP to be told my daughter has a ‘virus’.

Here are some essential oils that can support you in Spring:

SPRING HEALTH ISSUEESSENTIAL OILS THAT CAN HELPHOW TO USE IT *
1. Headaches + Migraines (around the temple area)Frankincense; Peppermint; Ice BlueInhale any of these oils; Dilute and apply to temples, base of skull, crown of head etc
2. Joint Aches and PainsLifelong Vitality Supplements; Deep Blue Polyphenol ComplexTake as directed
3. Eye issuesLifelong Vitality Supplements; FrankincenseTake as directed;                Dilute 1 drop and apply around the eyes, or apply on reflex points on the feet or ears
4. Feelings of Irritability or Frustration Lifelong Vitality Supplements;

Lavender, Lavender Peace, In Tune, Cedarwood, Siberian Fir, Ylang Ylang

Take as directed;

Inhale or diffuse any of these oils

5. Seasonal AllergiesTri-Ease capsules ;

Lavender, Peppermint + Lemon Oil

Take as directed;

Diffuse 2 drops of each oil together PLUS make a rollerbottle with 5 drops each of these oils (for children) or 10 drops each of these oils(for adults) and fractionated coconut oil

The essential oil brand I know, use and love is Doterra.

In my experience there’s no other company as committed to purity, sustainability and ethical practices with essential oils as Doterra.

I’ve been taking Doterra’s Lifelong Vitality Supplements for over 3 years and have barely had any illness since I started taking them.

To be more efficient with my spending I even take half the recommended dose……( I figure I’m a lightweight so that’s all I need).

These supplements are TGA approved in Australia and by far the best supplements I’ve ever taken.

By all means if you’ve achieved results with other essential oil brands and you stand by their sustainability and ethical practices, I encourage you to use what works best for your body.

FOOD

During spring we can either support the body through the foods we eat, or not support the body through the foods we eat.

The choice is always ours!

You can support your body and the Liver and Gall Bladder meridians during spring by eating more: broad leafy greens, miso, barley, wheat, rye, oats, celery, spring onions, sour and fermented foods, sprouts.

You can resist supporting the body during spring by eating more: Dairy, sugar, alcohol, poultry, eggs, animal fats, white flour.

A note on food:  I’m not suggesting a blanket rule that all these foods must be eliminated.

A healthy body can tolerate just about anything in moderation and can adapt and bounce back quickly.

And of course different ethnic and cultural backgrounds have different levels of acceptance for certain food types.  Plus the climate you live in plays a big part as well.

And, if you’re prone to any of those spring health issues mentioned above, I invite you to experiment with increasing (and/or minimising) the foods recommended for a few weeks and simply checking in with your body to see how you feel and respond.

Something for Friday 😜Haruki Murakami : cat lover and Japanese author extraordinaire. I love the way he notices how small actions can symbolize big things, how he weaves Japanese folk lore into his modern day adventures and his quirky philosophy and observations of human nature. I thoroughly enjoyed his most recent novel, ‘Killing Commendatore’ ( which is not about killing at all, so don’t let the title turn you off!)#harukimurakami #japaneseyoga #japanlovers #catlovers #books #friday #ilovereading

Small steps.... I just took another step towards my dreams: booking myself in for a familiarization tour of the Kumano Kodo walk in 2020. Here’s what I’m picturing moving forwards: I lead a 5 Day ‘Japanese Yoga in Japan Pilgrimage Walk’ along one of only two UNESCO world heritage walks: Kumano Kodo. After a traditional breakfast at our Japanese inn, mornings are spent in silent, walking meditation. We break the silence just before lunch by doing a Japanese yoga class under the trees ( forest-bathing and Japanese yoga rolled into one), have a tasty lunch and keep walking to our evening’s accommodation. We bath in the local hot spring before enjoying dinner of local delights. The 5 days end with a temple stay in Koyasan, the heart of Shingo Buddhism and ‘shojin ryori’ - traditional vegetarian food of Buddhist monks in Japan (more delicious than you can imagine). I can’t wait for my solo pilgrimage next year to try it on for size. 🙏#pilgrimage #solotravel #japan #japaneseyoga#dreams #shojinryori #kumanokodo #unesco #outdooryoga #alonetime
