Sometimes newcomers to my Japanese yoga classes get a bit muddled with their breathing.
This is completely normal and it usually settles down after a couple of classes.
If this ever happens to you, or during your day to day life you notice your breathing’s shallow, or you can’t seem to find your breathing rhythm, try this simple tip:
Make your out-breath just a couple of seconds longer than you normally would.
That’s it!
It’s almost too easy isn’t it?!
Let’s try it now:-)
Take a big breath in……….feel the breath expand the belly……..pause…….and exhale, extending the out-breath for a few moments longer.
What did you notice?
Hopefully your next in-breath after was a lovely, deep inhale.
You can apply this simple strategy in any yoga class, at work, at home, during a conflict or a stressful situation (not necessarily mutually exclusive situations!).
I’d love to hear how it worked for you:-)
